I saw another 00R build starting on Twitter, they seem to be starting with the head and it looks pretty good so far. Now that I've survived Anime Matsuri, I'll be able to start a bit, though I sat through Goldy's panel at AM and am rethinking how I want to approach the build, hrm. So many options, *sigh* I just need to start with something and see where it goes That'd be me, just got some soldering supplies so I'm working on some LED set ups. Personally I use more of a trial and error approach rather than fully drafting out the cosplay. Getting a good silhouette is much more practical than making it 100% accurate IMO. You can either start with the head or torso, the cockpit area is pretty easy since it's mostly rectangular plates. If you use a 3D model program or Pepakura, it's even easier since it takes out most of the guesswork for making patterns. I personally freehand my layouts though since I make my suits a bit more bulky than normal.

I probably won't be making the jump units, it's pretty difficult to support that large of a piece on a single joint, and they're gonna be dangling and make it really hard to navigate crowds. For subarms i'm running armature wire through the foam and having them attach to the back plate of the torso. The pauldrons are the hard part since they're about 1.5x the length of the torso and large extending shoulder pieces have a tendency to sag. I'm probably gonna scale them down so I don't have 4 feet shoulder to shoulder width.

I disagree completely. 1; Extra could easily be done in a few episodes simply to set the tone, hell they could cut it off after the hot springs, both meiya and sumika get a little story there and there is no need to finish it.

And female characters (including Mitsuki and Haruka from Kimi ga Nozomu Eien) who were introduced in the second half of Alternative make an appearance,.

In the game he only remembers that far anyway until alternative. 2; Large animes still happen from time to time, for me it should be something of the length of hunter x hunter or so. 3; yeah ok ill give you that one but there is nothing we can do about that now is there. For me it was not immersion that was the thing. It was the story, its the best fucking mecha story around. I disagree with that, Extra should be a full season on it's own.

Even though it's not exactly an amazing story by itself, it's the reason you actually care about the characters and why the shift to Unlimited is so impactful. The problem is that you're going to have to change how the narrative is delivered, which is one of the main reasons Muv Luv was such a compelling story. You have such an emotional investment to the story because you are experiencing the story first-person through Takeru's eyes. The tone of Unlimited only makes sense in that context because in reality, the world Takeru is in is very grim, yet the story continues the same comedic tone of Extra, because Takeru is still wearing the rose-colored lenses of Extra, and as he is our eyes in the world, we're made to think less seriously about what's actually going on in Unlimited. If you translate this into an anime, you're losing the aspect of having Takeru be the unreliable narrator, and segments such as the PTSD arc are not going to be nearly as compelling. I don't think it'll be particularly bad, but alot of things simply won't translate well, because you would have need half an episode dedicated to Takeru inner monologueing.
